Discover Tusculum
Since 1747, Tusculum Farm has been known to those who have lived here and their visitors as a special place. Located in Upper Montgomery County, over 500-acres of never ending views and spectacular beauty have served the Freeman Family for over 50 years. 300 of those acres are currently in crops, which has been the case for as long as anyone can remember. Tusculum Farm, or “The Farm” as many refer to it, is our family farm and our joy comes in sharing it with you. Our hope is that the love we have for the farm and the deep history of the land can be experienced by everyone. Once you visit, you’re part of the family.
“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.” - Heraclitus
In this same spirit, no one person has the same experience with Tusculum Farm – it is unique to everyone involved in their own way. We encourage you to make it your own and take part in activities happening on the farm while you’re here to learn more about the land and agriculture reserve that has provided those who have called this place home for centuries.
Explore The Farm with Farmer Joel, and see if you can spot the five alpacas, the 20 plus chickens (we use their eggs for all of our breakfasts!), horses, lambs, flower garden, and many other features unique to Tusculum. Learn how Tusculum Farm operates, today and in the past.
We are a catch and release farm. Our two ponds hold bass, blue gill and carp. You can fish in our ponds and use the poles we have available, or feel free to bring your own!
Take a self-guided tour of the property or follow our sculpture guide (provided when you check in), and discover the incredible collection of outdoor sculptures Carl and Virginia Freeman brought to Tusculum Farm. These pieces have become just as much part of the farm as the land itself.
Enjoy a nature walk or hike either on our miles of on-property trails and open space, or explore the surrounding areas, including Patuxent River State Park. If you'd prefer to rent a bike, we have bikes for both children and adults upon request!
Trail maps/GPS files will be provided upon check-in.
With top notch facilities, Tusculum Farm offers you the option to bring your own horse(s) – you can check them into our stable at the same time you check into one of our luxurious rooms. We can also connect you with one of our nearby partners for lessons or to ride for the day on one of the many nearby trails.
When you stay at Tusculum Farm, you'll never be bored. Between our cornhole setups, pickleball gear, pool games (seasonal), indoor games and private theater (with Hay Barn rental), there's something for every person.
If you're looking to add an experience that we don't have listed here, just ask! We've scheduled yoga classes, massages, chef dinners, dance classes, hayrides and more, and we look forward to helping you create your dream vacation!
