The Best Day Trips from Tusculum Farm

Whether you’re staying with us for a romantic weekend getaway, planning a corporate event or visiting for a wedding, Tusculum Farm has more than enough to keep you busy. If you want to hike or have a picnic, we have the acreage to do so. If you want to relax by the pool, that sounds great to us too! But if you’d like to go explore all that this beautiful area has to offer, we think taking day trips are the best way to do it. From golfing, to shopping, to nature exploration, here are some of our favorite day trips from Tusculum Farm:

Go Golfing

Bring your clubs to spend a day golfing at one of the courses just minutes away from Tusculum Farm.

This public 18-hole golf course is part of the MCG Golf family. Play here for the day, or check out GMCG’s 8 other golf courses and take a week-long tour of some of the best golfing facilities in the area. If hand golf isn’t your thing, try some foot golf to switch it up! The best part? All of the courses are located close enough to Tusculum Farm to take a day trip to each.

Play for the day, attend one of their events or take a lesson from their world-class instructors. Voted Best Golf Course in Montgomery County by Montgomery Gazette readers, this award-winning course is not one to miss.

Visit A Quaint Downtown

Who doesn’t love exploring a downtown on a warm summer day? Shopping, grabbing lunch at a new and exciting restaurant, soaking up the sun and relaxing in the parks? While there are plenty of quaint towns nearby, these two are our absolute favorites to visit.

This historic town is perfectly picturesque with its brick buildings, old growth trees and creek flowing through the downtown. With its charming hodgepodge of museums, exhibits and parks, there’s something for just about everyone. Just 40 minutes from Tusculum Farm, Frederick offers the perfect day trip to go shopping, enjoy award-winning food, explore the museums, attend a free concert and learn about the rich cultural history of the area.

Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg, MD is another great day trip from Tusculum Farm, however this urban area is vastly different from Frederick’s historical nature. This up and coming district is a new urban development that pairs retail businesses with urban apartment living to create a beautiful downtown area that is filled with life. Stone walkways, car-free downtown area, and lots of greenspaces create the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing afternoon for strolling through the shops. With tons of boutiques and craft restaurants, you could easily spend a day touring the area and still have more to explore. Check out their events calendar to visit some of their many great annual festivals.

Soar Through Adventure Parks

Adventure parks and challenge courses are an up-and-coming adventure option for all ages. With ziplines winding through the trees and ladders and swinging ropes to pump you up, these parks are great for adults too. Plan part of your team building exercises at either of these parks and your team will be laughing for weeks after.

Climb on the treetop bridges and through wobbly barrels. Develop skills, endurance and confidence as you maneuver through obstacles and overcome challenges. They offer a range of events, such as ‘Glow in the Park’ where you explore the grounds at night with obstacles lit up!

Home to unique challenges and agility testing. Gain a new perspective and fly around on multiple ziplines from exciting heights. Test your critical thinking skills, stability and perseverance. They even offer massive discounts for corporate retreats.

Enjoy Nature

Whether you have your own boat or need to rent kayaks, canoes or paddleboards from Black Hill Boats at Little Seneca Lake, this 505-acre reservoir is the perfect place to play on the water. Located just 30 minutes away from Tusculum Farm, this lake offers a fantastic opportunity to head out for a romantic day on the water, soak up some sun and enjoy some beautiful wildlife.

This award-winning 50-acre public garden is truly a sight to behold. With so much biodiversity, something is always blooming!  Check out the free azalea, rose or butterfly gardens, meander through the woodland walk and enjoy the two conservatories that are open year-round.

No matter which day trip you choose, always remember that you can come back to Tusculum Farm after a long day of exploration and adventure to relax by our pool or retreat to your luxurious farm style rooms.
